The "EARN IT Act" Is FINALLY Here!
It’s FINALLY Here!!!!
After two years of relentless advocacy,
the Eliminating Abusive and Rampant Neglect of Interactive Technology Act,
aka The EARN IT Act,
is FINALLY before Congress as S. 3538 and H.R. 6544
This powerful bills already have 24 bipartisan cosponsors - it should have ALL members of Congress.
YOU can help make that happen!
Regardless of which side of the aisle you're on, we can ALL get behind the protection of children from sexploitation.
Check out this tweet from Senator Richard Blumenthal (Democrat from Connecticut)
who just introduced the bill with Senator Lindsay Graham (Republican from South Carolina).
EARN IT has OVERWHELMING bi-partisan support with 19 cosponsors upon introduction.
But, KP…I forgot...What is EARN IT really all about?
1. Removes immunity for social media and technology companies that knowingly facilitate distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on platforms
2. Updates existing federal statutes to use the term child sexual abuse material (CSAM) instead of child pornography. The term “child pornography” fails to describe the true, traumatizing, life-changing, and horrific nature of the images and undermines the seriousness of the abuses.
3. Establishes a commission of survivors, technology representatives, and government stakeholders to create recommendations and voluntary best practices for tech companies to respond to the global pandemic of online sexual exploitation of children. Why haven’t they taken action to do the right thing yet?
